Room Makeover: Scary Office Transformed into Beloved Family Room

If you’ve been to our house and seen a closed door in the distance, this is why:

Well, the little girl, the kitty and the bunny are rather cute, but the rest of that craziness was horrifying! Truly yucky. Thankfully we have some other living spaces, but nothing was really functioning. The Front Room is nice and sunny, and it is the biggest room in our house, but there wasn’t a usable wall for a TV, plus it was too easy for the room to be scattered with toys. The aforementioned toys were supposed to be played with in the adjacent Playroom, but then those toys would take over, and the girls couldn’t get to their craft table, so they ended up using the dining table. All of which was making me crazy. And since I sort of *cough, fanatically, cough* enjoy some time in front of the computer, I was feeling too far removed. I certainly could leave the scary office and play with the darlings, but the table/meal problem/toy mess still loomed.

So, this weekend, with God’s help in granting me inspiration and much more than my usual amount of energy AND two Little Pretties who were very helpful indeed, I was able to turn this:

Our pretty little play corner! The girls and I LOVE this spot! It includes a reasonable amount of toys, while the rest (enough to start our own toy store) are in our storage shed, waiting for the next time the girls choose to rotate them in. (Or give them away.)

Important note about the Toy Rotation: It’s great and all, but for their security and creative/imaginative play, Sedona’s stuffed animals and Marissa’s babies and all “Baby” accoutrements remain in their bedroom, along with the play kitchen, play food and various cradles, rockers, and doll clothes. Some things just get to stay no matter what!

Maybe paint this to become a light–colored chalkboard? Too much dust??? But it would be so FUN!

I love this shelf! And the pine ceiling. And the old windows. Love. LOVE!

Getting there… it only needs a little more tweaking.

Bonus: Dear Christopher can watch TV in a relaxing room now! (The green loveseat is opposite.) I don’t have an “after” picture of the entertainment center yet, but it won’t take long at all.

You can’t see it, but the books and crafts remain in their lovely space (the room formally known as The Playroom, which will now officially be known as “The Craft Room,” or maybe “The Cozy Room” since it has the fireplace, or maybe “The Library” since it has the pretty built-in bookshelves) and hopefully, once we clear the table off, that particular space will remain in its usable glory as a Dining Room!

Oh look! We’re already making memories on the ground together! LOVE!!!!!
